  • part shade to full shade

  • medium to moist or wet soil (other ferns prefer drier conditions, so this is the best one to use for moist to wet sites)

  • called “sensitive” because the fern wilts in frost rather than staying green as Christmas fern does

  • natural habitat: floodplain forests, swamps, marshes and wet disturbed habitats

  • plant with other moist shade species such as Chelone glabra (White Turtlehead), Chrysogonum virginianum (Green and Gold), Conoclinium coelestinum (Blue Mistflower), Geranium maculatum (Wild Geranium), and Chasmanthium latifolium (River Oats)
