"In 2018, Karl and his crew at The Natural Garden (TNG) designed and installed a native plant habitat/moon garden in our extra, all-grass lot in town. We had started with the vague idea of helping pollinators and ended up with this magnificent habitat, which is not only beautiful, but flourishing after one summer of growth! We couldn't have had a better experience working with TNG's garden designers, equipment operators, stone masons, planting and maintenance crew, and plant specialist. To a one, they are hard workers and knowledgeable, thoughtful, creative artists and craftspeople, each considerate and with a good sense of humor.

"This is not a low-budget operation, and their experience and passion for their work shows in the quality of every aspect of this finely wrought project."

“Flooding in Staunton in August 2020 caused damages worth more than $3 million — which goes to show that storm water management is a huge problem. I realized I could address it in a small way on my property. My (circa 1970s) patio stones had heaved, making for dangerous walking. My asphalt driveway at the top of a hill would need to be replaced due to enlarged cracks. I asked several companies for patio and driveway estimates. I chose The Natural Garden for these projects because of one key difference -- planting to restore the edges next to the patio and the driveway. Because it has a nursery, planting native plants in other areas could be possible too.

“I didn't realize how much engineering and finesse either of these projects would require. I could see it though! Every stone in my patio is solidly placed. The permeable paving in the driveway with the concrete apron at the street end to protect the pavers from the snowplow is beautiful. And works! Furthermore, everyone has been delightful to work with.

“One area of my back yard has been difficult for me to manage. In my 'wild area' I haven't been able to plant enough to overcome the annual weeds and there is little privacy between me and my neighbor. It was depressing and I considered selling. Elise came and measured one afternoon, then designed a solution that will add privacy (hollies), more trees and shrubs (redbuds, serviceberries, viburnums), and perennial native plants, grasses, and bulbs all of which will support wildlife habitats, deter deer (somewhat), and relieve me from all those weeds. It will be lovely.

“Thanks to The Natural Garden, I want to live here as long as I can and will enjoy sharing this space with my friends and family.”
