OUR CAMPAIGN
In an effort to raise public awareness, The Natural Garden has embarked on an inspiring campaign to help save the monarch butterfly. The monarch is one of the most iconic creatures in the world. However, its loss of habitat over recent history has put it in serious danger of extinction.
“In 2012, just 60 million monarchs arrived at their overwintering habitats, a record low. And fresh data from WWF Mexico suggests that the current winter's numbers are even lower - down to just 33 million butterflies across 0.67 hectares (1.65 acres).” - Washington Post

WHAT WE CAN DO
Plant milkweed!
Milkweed serves as the larval host and food source for the monarch. There are many different milkweeds native to Virginia, including the common milkweed, butterfly milkweed, swamp milkweed, whorled milkweed, green milkweed, tall milkweed and purple milkweed. These range from a variety of microclimates, making it easy to find one that will work in your front or backyard. Let us help! Visit our facebook page or contact us for more information.
